Finding Strength in Unity: Why Our Domestic Violence Awareness Walk Matters
Our annual I Am Empowered Domestic Violence Awareness Walk holds a special place in my heart, not just as the founder and executive director of The I Am House, but as someone who’s walked this painful journey myself. For me, this isn’t just an event—it’s deeply personal. It’s a day where we come together to raise awareness and remind each other that healing is possible and that we’re not alone.
When I look back on my own experience, I remember how isolated I felt, like no one could understand what I was going through. That’s why this walk is so powerful. It’s a chance for survivors to see that they’re part of a community—one that stands together in strength and support. Every step we take represents the courage it takes to break free, to heal, and to move forward.
But this walk isn’t just for me; it’s for all the survivors who are still finding their way. It’s for those searching for hope and those who have found it and want to give it to others. It’s a space for us to share our stories, raise our voices, and be heard.
Each year, I’m amazed by the strength of the people who join us. Seeing so many survivors walk side by side with their allies is a reminder of the power we hold as a community. Together, we’re showing that domestic violence doesn’t define us—it’s just a chapter in our stories, and we have the power to write the rest.
I hope you’ll join us this year. Whether you’re walking as a survivor or in support of someone you love, your presence makes a difference. Together, we’re creating change, raising awareness, and, most importantly, lifting each other up.
