YOU ARE NOT ALONE.

What is Domestic Violence?

Domestic violence refers to a pattern of abusive behavior in an intimate relationship, where one seeks to gain power and control over another through physical, emotional, psychological, or sexual means. It occurs between individuals who are married, cohabitating, dating, or have a familial relationship.

The term "domestic violence" encompasses various forms of abuse, including but not limited to:

  1. Physical Abuse: Inflicting physical harm or injury, such as hitting, punching, slapping, kicking, choking, or using weapons.

  2. Emotional and Psychological Abuse: Undermining a person's self-esteem, manipulating or controlling their actions and thoughts, constantly criticizing or belittling them, isolating them from friends and family, or threatening them.

  3. Sexual Abuse: Forcing or coercing someone into engaging in sexual activities without consent, including rape, unwanted sexual acts, or degrading sexual behavior.

  4. Financial Abuse: Exerting control over a person's financial resources, restricting their access to money, preventing them from working, or exploiting their financial dependence.

  5. Stalking and Harassment: Repeatedly following, monitoring, or harassing an individual, both in person and through technology, such as phone calls, text messages, emails, or social media.

Domestic violence affects people of all genders, ages, races, socioeconomic backgrounds, and sexual orientations. It has severe physical, emotional, and psychological consequences for the victims and can lead to long-term trauma, injuries, and even death.
